DuPage Township Annual Meeting - A Tale of 3 Worlds

Where do you stand in the debate?  Which of the 3 groups do you support?  The Seniors?  The Politician?  or The Taxpayer?  Share your comments.

  1. As an attendee ..it appeared that the seniors in attendance were shaking with fear that any of their programs might be cut. I feel that Township officials are responsible for putting fear in their hearts. Bill Mayer even stated that he might have to cut programs to put agendas, minutes and other important taxpayer info on line. What a pathetic leader! He is wanting to continue to hide what they do.

The Township meeting room was packed beyond capacity, perhaps in the future we should meet at the library or Village Hall for the annual meeting. I can't pick or choose a certain group, but since we are all taxpayers, Government entities need to be very concerned about expenditures even in the best of times, which this is not. I thought there were some great questions & comments about putting the Financials and minutes on the Township site.

  4. In the next few days, I'll report to the Number Crunchers information regarding Illinois Senate Bill 37 (The Local Government Transparency Act) and the impact the bill, if passed, will have on DuPage Township and other local Illinois government bodies, including counties, school districts, municipalities, libraries and park districts.

In addition, in a subsequent report to the Number Crunchers, I'll provide the results of an audit that measures information that the DuPage Township website provides against the online information that SB37 would require. The audit results will show the level of transparency (or lack of transparency) that DuPage Township reports information to its Bolingbrook, Romeoville and Naperville residents.

  5. I am sorry but your statement that there were 3 groups (seniors, politicians and taxpayers) at the meeting, I believe was condecending at best. I beleive that the Seniors are most likely taxpayers.
As far as the Seniors taking all the seats,
if you would have arrived early for the meeting, I beleive you may have been able to sit in a seat, after all Mr. Kadelac was able to sit...This goes for Ms. Valevicius comment concerning the time of the monthly meetings as well.

I arrived at the meeting 5 minutes early, seats were filled. A seat was available, however, I chose to stand so that others could sit down.

  7. Anon: I'd add that politicians also pay taxes. So really, most everyone in that meeting was a taxpayer.

Don't forget, if a senior owns a home, they pay taxes. If they go shopping, they pay taxes.

  8. The only difference is that the seniors and politicians are benefitting financially from our tax dollars. How much of our tax dollars are being used to fund casino trips for the seniors? We all know what the politicians are being paid. So don't lump the hardworking taxpayers into either one of those groups.

The only dollars being spent at the casino are our own. Please, I implore you to get your facts straight. Thank you.

  10. Bolingbrook Senior: If what you are saying is fact, please encourage Bill Mayer to provide a copy of the receipts collected by the Seniors for each trip taken. We have requested that information from the Township, and was denied.

The Illinois Attorney General's Office is looking at the case as we speak.

All we want is to verify how much of taxpayer dollars were used to fund the various trips taken by the Seniors. If the records show that the trips are 100% funded by the Seniors, we will certainly state that fact.

But we can not verify that information if Bill Mayer and the Township refuses to provide it to us.
