Wisconsin Public Employee Union Debate

Where do you stand on the debate?  Are you Team Wisconsin Governor? or Team Public Unions?

  1. I have to tell you, I support Governor Walker.

Public sector employees will not get a free ride anymore in any part if the country and even this State will have to change because of tax payer pressure.

Mark my words, within the next decade, public sector employees will be on a 401K type pension plan, they will be paying between 20% and 50% in healthcare costs and will have to retire at 67 – 70.

Don’t think the police and fire services will be exempted ether. That gravy train of working two jobs and retiring at 50 will be long gone.

I agree they should probably not be on the streets past 60, but be creative over their last years in the job.

  2. Do you think being a fireman or a policeman is equivalent to you sitting in some cramped cubicle for 8 hours a day? Public service employees have to put up with crap that you couldn't even imagine. If anything, they're giving you the free ride.

Granted I think that days of 100% funded pensions are over and their have to be serious reforms. But that goes for the politicians most of all. Did you know that before Republican Governor George Ryan went to jail he was pulling down more than THREE different pensions from three different government jobs? There is definitely waste in the pension system but GOP lawmakers trying to blame on hard-working teachers, firemen and policemen is a joke! Elected officials should not even qualify for a government pension in the first place.

  3. No one should be blaming the teachers, the firemen or the policemen. Blame the system that created all this. That's why we are in this predicament. At the time the system was created, the country was very prosperous. Everyone was happy not thinking that such time like now can happen. No one was thinking then that we will have this economic crisis. If you ponder for a moment, all this started when the economy went down the drain. Time to change I guess. The gravy train is over people. Wake up.

  4. Interesting view points from both the right and the left. As an Independent Voter, the point is "No One" should be giving a government pension.

  5. Reform is needed because of the economic changes. Don't forget those economic troubles
were due to Politicians, big business, Wall street, and the top 2%. We are being tricked into Middle class agaist middle class, while we
are all distrated from the real issues and causes. Finishing off whats left of our Middle class is not the answer.

  6. The blood sucking, parasitic government unions exist to drain dollars from the taxpayers and reward the politicians who give them excessive pay, benefits and pensions. Those politicians don't represent the taxpayers. I never needed a union to help me achieve. The union will hold you down or destroy your business. Government union members make 30 to 40% more than their private sector counterparts (average taxpayers). The gravy train is almost over. Wake up!
