I totally disagree that Mayor Claar and his village board are Republicans. With the emphasis they place on high taxation, increased spending and government owned entities, their actions are representative of extreme left wing socialism.
What we need in this village are fiscal conservatives who can moderate the spending, reduce the high sales taxes so that individuals will shop in the village they reside in, reduce property taxes so that we are competitive with neighboring villages and sell the government run businesses that continue to lose money.
Shocking, right? Well it's true. Leroy Brown and Sandy Swinkunas are both republican precinct committeman, and the other 4 are registered republicans. Plus, Claar would never allow a democrat to serve on the Village board. Their policy is strictly tax and spend.
The problem with our current Village Board is that they are really good at writing checks but not so good at making sure things are balanced.
They can't balance the budget without screwing the police and firemen -even while they prop up the money losing golf course and airport.
They suck at balancing the community's needs against the mayor's.
They are, in short, the perfect argument for the need to get new blood on the village board. People who won't be afraid to question the mayor and say to him "Seriously, Your Malfeasance?"

The definition of Communism is extremely apt for this board, it reads;
“A political philosophy, movement, or regime that exalts rule above the individual standing for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition”

I have to agree with the post concerning Bowen and Slaughter. Claar will have a coronary with those two on the board. I would attend every village board meeting to see "Red Roger" huff and puff when his actions were questioned.
