Hanger-Ons??? You've got to be kidding me. It's a CLUB, just like having your own clique. Trust me, if he (Claar) didn't want these folks around they wouldn't keep getting re-elected over and over and over again. It's no different than in DC, they all want their own little fiefdom and God Help Anyone that says anything against them or gets in their way. Educate yourself people. Claar will always "seemingly" talk "nicey, nice" to your face so as to look like he is truly listening to the residents of Bolingbrook. But in actuality, he, like those in DC could care less about you. Unless you have some cash to throw his way for a favor!
I agree that Mayor Roger Claar helped spur Bolingbrook's growth, and has done great things for the village.
I can't speak for the other branches of government, but I know that Mayor Claar is responsible for the village government. The trustees rarely vote against him, and even then, he still gets his way in the end. Any problems can't be passed on on the trustees.
Again I'm not sure about the other branches. He seems to have a strong ally in the DuPage Township. The library board went against him when they built the new library. While he may influence members by supporting their campaigns, I don't think they blindly follow him.
Claar may not run for re-election, but I still think he has a firm grip on Bolingbrook, for better or worse. You can't blame the bad on the trustees because as a whole, they're voting the way Claar wants them to.
A suggesting: Creating a blog for each post is a lot of work. I would suggest having one blog for the Number Crunchers, and have a post for each story. Because eventually you could have dozens of blogs, and most will be inactive after a week or so. Right now, it's like creating a separate newspaper for each article.
